DA Resets to 0% on Implementation Day [ESTIMATED — A001]

Your current DA of 60% will reset to 0% the moment the 8th Pay Commission is implemented. This has happened in every prior Pay Commission and is practically certain, but remains technically unconfirmed until the official report.

The projected salary above uses 0% DA for the 8th CPC side and long-term HRA rates once DA rebuilds past 25%. The DA Reset Explained page has the full analysis.

HRA: Day-1 vs Long-Term Rate[ESTIMATED — OQ-01]

On 8CPC Day 1, HRA will likely be 24/16/8% (X/Y/Z-class) because DA resets to 0%. Once DA crosses 25% (estimated 2–3 years), HRA rises to 30/20/10%. This calculator shows the long-term steady-state rate by default.

NPS Calculated on New Basic Only[ESTIMATED — A005]

Under 8th CPC, NPS deduction (10%) is computed on new basic pay only, since DA = 0. Under the current 7th CPC, NPS is on (basic + DA). This calculator correctly applies both rules.

How to Calculate Your 8th Pay Commission Salary Online

  1. Select your Pay Level (1 to 18, including 13A for HAG scale) from the dropdown.
  2. Enter your current Basic Pay as per your 7th CPC pay slip — not gross salary.
  3. Choose your city class: X (metro), Y (5–50 lakh population), or Z (all others). This determines your HRA rate.
  4. Select a fitment scenario — or enter a custom factor. Default is 2.57× (same as 7th CPC) for comparison.
  5. Choose your pension type (NPS, UPS, or OPS). NPS/UPS employees have 10% deducted from new basic; OPS employees have no NPS deduction.
  6. Click Calculate Salary to see your projected 8th CPC salary.

8th Pay Commission Salary Formula & Calculation Method

The calculator uses the following formulas, derived from 7th CPC implementation patterns:

Current 7th CPC Salary [🟢 Official]

  • DA = Basic × DA% (currently 60%)
  • HRA = Basic × HRA rate (X: 30%, Y: 20%, Z: 10% at DA ≥ 50%)
  • TA = Fixed monthly amount by level and city class
  • NPS = (Basic + DA) × 10% (for NPS/UPS employees only)

Projected 8th CPC Salary [🔴 Estimated]

  • New Basic = Current Basic × Fitment Factor
  • DA = 0% (DA resets to zero on implementation day — A001)
  • HRA = New Basic × HRA rate (long-term, assuming DA rebuilds past 25%)
  • HRA Day-1 = New Basic × lower rate (24/16/8%) since initial DA = 0%
  • TA = Same as current (TA revision under 8th CPC is TBD — OQ-02)
  • NPS = New Basic × 10% (DA = 0 on Day-1, so NPS is only on basic)

Common Mistakes When Calculating 8th CPC Salary

  • Multiplying gross by fitment factor: The fitment factor applies to basic pay only, not your gross salary or CTC.
  • Assuming DA carries over: Your current 60% DA goes to 0% on 8CPC Day-1. The new basic pay compensates for this, but it's not a 1-to-1 exchange.
  • Using gross HRA from Day-1: Initial HRA will be 24/16/8% (X/Y/Z) since DA = 0%. It rises to 30/20/10% only after DA crosses 25%.
  • Assuming NPS stays the same: Under 8th CPC, NPS is computed on new basic only (since DA = 0). Your current NPS deduction is on (basic + 60% DA).
